Bacteria free water through ultraviolet purification
FRESH WATER is a precious resource but may not always be safe to drink…
YOU should be aware…
Fresh water may be contaminated by sewage, septic tanks, industrial and other wastes. The clearest-looking, best tasting water can be unsafe for human consumption and may cause infectious hepatitis, dysentery, infectious jaundice, typhoid fever and a host of other diseases.
Even if water is safe today, it may be contaminated tomorrow.
Germicidal lamps are extensively used in air and water purification, sewage treatment, protection of food and beverages, and other disinfection and sterilization applications. Ultraviolet radiation is 200-300 nanometer (nm) range is extremely effective in killing micro-organisms such as airborne and surface bacteria, viruses, yeasts and molds.
A low-pressure, mercury-arc germicidal lamp emits about 90% of its radiated energy at 253.7 nm. By coincidence, this is a very close to the peak of the Germicidal Effectiveness Curve, 265 nm, the most lethal wavelength to micro-organisms. The type of glass used as the envelope of a germicidal lamp is critical to the lamp’s performance. Lehmier Electric uses the highest quality “hard glass” quartz. Hard glass quartz has excellent ultraviolet transmittance ensuring maximum UV output. Other types of glass., e.g., “soft glass” used in lamp types such as the G8T5, G15T8, and G30T8, absorb UV, transmitting less useful output. This process, called “solarization” becomes worse as the lamp ages, producing darkening of the glass and increasing the rate of absorption of UV.
Hard glass quartz provides distinct benefits over lamps made with soft glass.
GEMICIDAL LAMP
- *Higher UV output.
- *Higher out at the end of rated life.
- *Less change in output during life.
- *More efficient conversion of electrical power into ultraviolet output.
FLUORESCENT LAMP
- *Lower UV output.
- *Lower out at the end of rated life.
- *More change in output during life.
